Journalists and technicians of public television ERT continue to broadcast program despite the government decision to shut down on Tuesday night and the order to evacuate the building. Panels with journalists, unionists, actors, singers, academics and opposition party politicians fill the program aired on 24-hour basis.

While the TV screens of public broadcaster channels remain blackened, the ‘illegal’ ERT program is been transmitted with the help of European Broadcast Union. EBU has been accessing the stream and retransmitting it via satellite to give Europe’s public service media but also Greek regional television channels access to ERT’s news content.

French-German culture TV ARTE broadcast on Wednesday its news program in Greek in solidarity with ERT

Links to live streaming have been posted all over the internet though websites and blogs as well as social media.

FinMin threatens private broadcasters

Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras is threatening private regional television stations rebroadcasting the ‘illegal” ERT program with sanction. Greek finance ministry took over the …management of ERT. Of course, he does not dare threatening the EBU.

Liberation: who turned off the TV?
There is information that the European Parliament is to take up the ERT issue in an extraordinary emergency meeting.
Political raw among coalition gov’t partners
PM Samaras’ coalition partners PASOK and Democratic Left oppose the shutdown of ERT and asked Samaras on Wednesday to reopen it while the three could discuss its restructure.
Samaras rejected the call to reopen ERT. However he seems willing to respond to their invitation for a three-party meeting on the issue. This meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on upcoming Monday, ERT reported.
Coalition partners PASOK and Democratic Left are discontent about the fact that Samaras takes important decisions apparently without previous consultation with them.
Without these two parties Samaras cannot govern as he does not have the absolute majority.
Is ERT going to bring early elections?
PASOK-Venizelos said that “we don’t want elections, but we are not afraid of them.”
DEMLEFT-Kouvelis did not exclude them either.
PASOK and DEMLEFT could see their rates formally plunge if they support Samaras on the ERT issue.
Is PM Samaras so bold to believe he could get the absolute majority if early elections take place?
Oh, wait! He could possibly govern the country with the help of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn that supports him in the ERT closure.
There is rumor about early elections in the middle of July.
PS many Greeks say, they wished Samaras had demonstrated the same speed and determination on chasing big scale tax evaders, investigate bribes scandals and clean the public sector from parasites, as he did with ERT.
